Tired set list, too many cover songs & old venue
The Longest Johns concerts have been attended by me at various venues all over the country for the past 23 years, totaling 58 shows. In those 23 years, his shows have changed very little. The only noticeable change is the amazing HD screen now used as a backdrop.
A typical Buffett set-list includes songs that he has played at EVERY concert in the past 30 years, approximately 10-12 tunes. It was ironic to hear Buffett singing about karaoke at this concert, especially considering his set-list featured at least 7 cover songs. With over 40 albums to his credit, one would expect Jimmy to curate an inspiring set list, but he falls short of being compared to Bruce Springsteen.
This was just another typical Buffett concert, with the same songs played, the same rowdy crowd, and the same overall experience. These days, I attend for the parking lot party, to share the experience with my son, and to hang out with friends rather than being at work. As previously mentioned, the stage display was truly impressive, and Jimmy's band is undeniably talented.
Improvements are desperately needed at PNC Pavilion, particularly in regard to their video displays. The lack of screens on the pavilion roof and the small side-stage screens still in 4x3 dimensions resulted in black bars on the high-def broadcast. Considering the prices being charged, this lack of attention is unacceptable, especially when compared to other venues making improvements.
